Welcome back to Show and Tell, where I unbox sweet tech for every area of your life. In this episode, I try out the Evapolar evaSMART, a personal cooling device. I always feel like my work station is warmer than everyone else’s is, so rather than force everyone else in the office to freeze I found a different solution: controlling my own microclimate.

Evapolar air is like a cool breeze

The most unique feature of the EvaSMART is that it’s an evaporative air cooler, which is different from freon air conditioners or traditional fans. Evaporative air coolers take the warm stale air and let it pass over water-moistened pads. The air then becomes cool and slightly humidified. This creates the sensation and comfort of a natural breeze and is a major improvement compared to dry cooling methods–such as a fan–which simply circulate warm air and keep the air dry. Since evaporative air conditioners cool the air naturally, there is no need for the use of chemicals like freon found in most air conditioners. This device has won innovation awards in the tech industry for its humidifying and clean cooling technology.

Bells and whistles

Evapolar isn’t making just air personal air coolers–their tech comes with bells and whistles, too. First, technology today wouldn’t be cutting edge if it didn’t have smart capabilities. The evaSMART can connect to smartphones via the Evapolar app and smart homes via Alexa or Google Home. Whether through the app or your smart-home device, you can control evaSMART from anywhere in the house. Another cool feature is that the device plug is a USB-C which you can run with a power bank if you’re on the go–making this device easily portable.

The customizable LED light is a great feature to play around with the ambiance and help set the mood. If this all isn’t enough yet, my personal favorite feature is the air purifying feature of evaSMART. Thanks to the inorganic material used in the device, air pushed out is guaranteed to be clean. Having a personal air conditioner now has a bit of flair.

I will be back soon to unbox more tech, but until then, check out my previous episodes here.
