Grit Daily House & Rally Austin Are What’s Left Of SXSW After Its Cancellation

Published on December 13, 2020

When the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas was cancelled earlier this month amid growing concern for the rapidly spreading coronavirus, local businesses rallied together to salvage what they could. For thousands of people and businesses large and small, the annual revenue from the SXSW festival represents make or break income.

Without that, local businesses in the Austin area will likely suffer in the wake of the pandemic for longer than usual. Companies like Rally Austin hopes to combat that problem. The organization is comprised of local businesses that aim to host a series of smaller pop up events around the city in what is now being called #altSXSW on social media.

Along with Grit Daily House, the events at SXSW are likely to be salvaged in the wake of mass event cancellations, potentially saving the city and its businesses from losing millions of dollars in unearned revenue. Grit Daily House, for example, hopes to provide a space for vendors to connect with the festival-goers as much as they can despite the loss of venue or booth space they were hoping for.

With over a week of events lined up, Grit Daily House will deliver an alternative place for festival-goers to attend in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Figures like Kosha Dillz, Jim Kwik, Beyond Meat, Major Lazer, SJ Murray, Stewart Rogers, and Leah Hunter, to name a few. Grit Daily House will be run and operated by Grit Daily’s team as they interview and network throughout the week with product from Beyond Meat, Dulce Vida Tequila, GT’s (Kombucha) Living Foods, and Peju Wines.

In short, the economic impact of event cancellations around the country are far-reaching. Businesses large and small are likely to feel the brunt of this disaster, and the smaller businesses coming together to salvage what was almost lost will likely ease the problem as we head into what could eventually become a lockdown similar to what is happening in Italy.

Events from Rally Austin will take place throughout the city, and attendance will be limited as to help stop the potential spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. Both Rally Austin and Grit Daily House are asking attendees to take proper precautions when attending large gatherings, despite the limits in attendance in-place to keep them small. Wash your hands, and please avoid attendance if you feel sick or are experiencing symptoms.
